The End

​The title may seem a little odd and it is. The idea for any article is to inform or to make one think a little. Hopefully, this one will do both.

When the end of something comes then it is understood that it is completed. Time, then, to move on to something different or a new challenge. Perhaps it will be something complementing the former challenge or a brand new one that pushes oneself to be even better than before.

Consider the following passage:

Romans 10:4

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.


Christ is the “end” of the law. This is an interesting choice of words here by the inspired Apostle Paul. When we think of Jesus, the word “end” may not be the first word that would be used to describe Him. Yet, in this context, it is exactly the precise word that was chosen and used to perfection. (For all of God’s word is perfect) Let us back up and read the previous verses with this one.

Romans 10:1-4

Brethren, my heart's desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation. For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. For not knowing about God's righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.


Paul was pleading with his Jewish brothers to accept the righteousness based on faith and not on the keeping of the Mosaical Law. He wanted them to believe in the Christ who put an end to that law. The word “end” can be used as a termination point or the idea of reaching a specified destination. These two thoughts are complementary to one another. Jesus said He came not to abolish but to fulfill the law. (Matthew 5:17) And the fulfillment meant that it was replaced by a new and better covenant. (Hebrews 9:15; 12:24)

Therefore, Jesus is the “end of the law” and all should come to believe that He is the living Son of God. Not seeking righteousness by any other means but only through Him. Jesus has promised to prepare a place for those who are faithful and return to reward those who obey the gospel and to punish those who do not. (John 14:1-3; 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10) Are you prepared for that? Have you ended your life of sin wanting to only live for God in Christ? The time to end old ways is ever decreasing. Please put on Christ in baptism and end a life of living for self and begin a life in the Lord Jesus Christ serving others. Do so before your life’s end.
